Greg Pipkin formally retired as a Managing Director in Barclays Investment Banking division in Houston, Texas. He was also Head of the Upstream Vertical team within the firm’s Natural Resources Group of the Investment Banking Division. After the financial crisis in 2008, Greg and the entire Lehman Brothers Houston office of 40 professionals joined Barclays. He has more than 30 years of experience where his firm was engaged by upstream entities in both strategic advisory roles and financing capacities as an underwriter. Some of his more notable transactions were the Exxon and XTO(client) merger, the BHP(client) acquisition of Petrohawk, the Freeport McMoRan acquisition of Plains Exploration(client) and the YPF Argentina, Antero Resources, RSP Permian, Memorial Resources, and Rice Energy initial public offerings where his firm acted at as QB on the offerings.
While at Barclays, he made several “friends and family” investments in Morningstar Partners, Indigo Resources, Momentum Energy, Tri-C Resources, Caiman Energy, Templar Energy, Vulcan Energy and Halcon Resources. While at Lehman Brothers, Greg sourced(he was not allowed to personally invest – firm policy) Antero Resources, Cordillera Energy, Enduring Resources and Sandridge Energy for Lehman Brothers and its merchant bank.
Greg graduated from the University of Texas in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the Cockrell School of Engineering. After working as a petroleum engineer for ARCO Oil & Gas Company and while he worked at the Texas Railroad Commission, he graduated with an MBA degree in 1984 from the University of Texas McCombs School of Business. Then he started his energy investment banking career in New York city for The First Boston Corporation.
